Early and Late Walks

Early Walk Policy

Students who will have two or less courses remaining in their final semester, and who are in good academic standing, may request to participate one semester early. Early walks are granted on a case-by-case basis as space allows. Prior to completing this form, students must complete a Graduation Application in OSCAR for their graduating semester. Ceremony participation is not guaranteed.

Late Walk Policy

Late walks are granted on a case-by-case basis when a hardship prevents a student from attending their graduating semester as space allows in our venue.
To be considered, students must complete this form by the withdrawal deadline of the semester they wish to participate. Ceremony participation is not guaranteed.

Fall 2026 Policy Revision

Beginning in Fall 2026, students will no longer be able to request to walk one semester early. Summer graduates will continue to be invited to participate in the following Fall Commencement (e.g. Summer 2026 graduates may participate in the Fall 2026 ceremony).

Late walks will be reserved for unforeseen hardship situations that prevent the graduate from attending the ceremony. Students with an extenuating circumstance that will prevent the graduate from attending may contact the Commencement Office. Examples of this include:

  • Personal or family emergencies such as a serious medical emergency or death of an immediate family member.
  • International students with visa restrictions that prevent the student from attending.
  • Student called into active military service
