President Cabrera hands degree to student.

On behalf of our entire academic community, welcome to the 261st Commencement of the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Commencement is a special time of celebration, marking the end of one journey and the start of another.

Throughout our 136-year history, Yellow Jackets have set themselves apart as some of the brightest, hardest working, and most innovative individuals in the world, and we are proud to celebrate their achievements.

Any Georgia Tech alumnus could tell you about the diligence and dedication necessary to earn a Tech degree, but the graduates crossing our stage today have also overcome extraordinary challenges to be here. In the middle of their educational journey, they had to adapt to a whole new way of learning, socializing, and connecting with others, all while navigating disruptions caused by an unprecedented global health crisis. As we celebrate these graduates, we also applaud their commitment to their education and research, to each other, and to this community.

I’m very grateful to our students, faculty, and staff, who continue to support and care for one another while showing the grit, tenacity, and creative spirit for which Yellow Jackets are so well known. And to our graduates’ families and friends — those who inspire, guide, and challenge them to be the best version of themselves — your encouragement and support have helped make today possible. Thank you.

As part of our Fall 2021 ceremonies, nearly 5,000 outstanding Yellow Jackets from the fall and summer semesters will receive their degrees. As their degrees are conferred, these bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral graduates join more than 178,000 Georgia Tech alumni around the globe.

Georgia Tech exists to nurture and develop the next generation of leaders to use their knowledge, skills, and talent to make people’s lives better. Based on what the Class of 2021 has already accomplished, I know we can expect amazing things from these fine Yellow Jackets in the years to come.

Congratulations, Class of 2021!
