Fall 2020 Ceremony FAQ

We will celebrate our spring, summer, and fall graduates at the Fall 2020 Commencement ceremony in December. To review our general ceremony questions, visit our Commencement FAQ page

When will you provide additional ceremony details?
Dates, times, and ticket allotments for the Fall 2020 ceremony will be published the week of Sept. 7. We understand students and families will need ample time to make arrangements to participate. Spring and summer graduates may register an email address with the Commencement Office to receive updates after graduation.

Will I still earn my degree? 
Yes, students will still earn their degrees and be able to graduate in summer, consistent with academic standards. Spring graduates were awarded their degrees in May.  

Will I still receive my diploma?
Yes, diplomas will still mail out four to six weeks after the end of term. Summer students can update their diploma mailing address in Oscar through end of term. Diploma questions should be sent to the Registrar's Office.

What if I’m unable to attend the new ceremony date?
Spring and summer graduates will have the option to apply for a late walk for the Spring 2021 ceremony. The application will go live in September. 

Will bachelor's students still receive their honor cords? Will doctoral students still receive their hood?
Yes, students will still receive these items from the Institute. We will have information on how students can receive these items the week of Sept. 7. Graduates will have the option to receive them at the Fall 2020 ceremony or have them delivered by mail.  

I'm a Fall 2019 graduate who applied to participate in the Spring 2020 ceremony. Will I be included in the Fall 2020 or Spring 2021 ceremony?
Students who applied for a late walk in Spring 2020 will have the option to participate in the Fall 2020 ceremony. Students will be required to RSVP for the Fall 2020 ceremony to participate. Information on our Fall 2020 RSVP process will be published the week of Sept. 7.  

When will you publish the dates for the Spring 2021 ceremony?
Ceremony dates and times will be published the week of Jan. 18, 2021. We will be unable to confirm ceremony information prior to that date.  

How many tickets will I receive for the Fall 2020 or Spring 2021 ceremony?
We will publish ticket allotments for the Fall 2020 ceremony the week of Sept. 7. Guest tickets will depend on the venue, number of graduates, and current public health guidelines. 

Will you have options for me to participate virtually? 
The Commencement Office is considering creative options to involve graduates who are unable to attend the ceremony in person. We will stream all ceremonies live at commencement.gatech.edu for anyone unable to attend.  

What changes can I expect to the fall ceremony to accommodate public health guidelines?
The Commencement Office is evaluating ceremony elements to determine what can remain and where new elements can be added. We will share an overview of ceremony changes the week of Sept. 7.  

Will you mix spring, summer, and fall graduates in each ceremony?
We are evaluating all options for our fall ceremonies. We will publish ceremony composition when we share other details the week of Sept. 7.
